La Tuscia

The region known as Tuscia Romana covers a wide area in the northern Lazio, stretching from Monti della Tolfa as far as Monti Sabatini and Lake Bracciano.

Your trip to Tuscia Romana may start from Fiumicino-Rome airport, where you can rent a car, actually, the best way to reach Tolfa. In town, the museum of archaeology waits for you to visit it, just as the Etruscan site in Pian Conversa, the museum of history in the neighbouring village of Allumiere, and the Etruscan ruins in Lumi sul Mignone and on Mt Ravello. Travelling on from Monti della Tolfa, which are perfect for trekking, brings you to Canale Monterano, situated within a natural reserve crisscrossed with hillside tracks leading you to the remains of an old village, abandoned since the 19th century, and to Stigliano Spa just a little further on. Closed by along the Braccianese Claudia road are Barbarano Romano and the outstanding Etruscan village of San Giuliano.
Yet, however important the latter might be, the necropolis of San Giovenale in Blera is even bigger, thus do not miss to visit it! It is really worth travelling a few extra miles southwards to Lake Bracciano, whose shores have much to offer both to visitors and locals: from the majestic shape of the 15th c. castle of the Odescalchi's to Itaf, the museum of aeronautics in Vigna di Valle, where more than 60 planes and fighters from the First and the Second World Wars are on view.

Your journey through Tuscia Romana must include a stop at Anguillara and Trevignano Romano, the best places for practising a number of interesting and challenging activities, such as sailing, canoeing, horse riding, windsurfing, and camping of course, especially in the summer.
